Graeme Armstrong netted twice for Gateshead in their Conference North fixture against Alfreton, put back 24 hours to accommodate athletics at the International Stadium, with Michael Rae adding the other in a comfortable 3-0 win.

Bute Arms were 5-1 victors at Bay Horse in the Tyneside Sunday League Division One while Sunniside beat Coachman 5-2 and Wallsend Labour won 2-0 at Bridle Path.

The region’s clubs were in FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round action and Shildon hit-man Warren Byrne was all smiles as he netted a hit-trick in a 3-0 win over Leeds Carnegie.
Dean Douglas and Michael Reid were left to squabble over the matchball at Penrith as they both grabbed trebles in a 7-4 win over Darwen while Dunston Fed’s Andrew Bulford was another hat-trick hero in a 4-0 victory over Tadcaster.

CRAIG FARRELL fired in the only goal of the game as York City celebrated the big kick-off in the Blue Square Conference with a win at Crawley.
Richard Brodie and Ben Wilkinson had both hit the Southerners' woodwork before Farrell smashed in the winner off the inside of the post with a vicious cross-shot in the 70th minute.

STRIKER Davie Southern led the celebrations as Gateshead secured promotion to the Blue Square North with a 2-0 UniBond Premier play-off final victory over Buxton. Southern was punching the air in front of a bumber crowd of almost 1,500 at the International Stadium as second half goals from Kris Gate and Paul Brayson saw the Tynesiders promoted - and sparked scenes of jubilation as the players mobbed boss Ian Bogie.
