Durham City 4 Chester-le-Street 0 by Ken Milgate
August 2007
In a highly entertaining and pulsating derby marked by many polished individual performances, Calvin Smith’s consistency of work rate over the whole game deserved man-of-the-match recognition – his movement off the ball and passing were particularly eye-catching.
After an opening ten minutes of end-to-end sparring, City got in the first blow when Stephen Capper outstripped the defence down the left wing and jinked his way along the by-line before giving Jamie Clarke the proverbial chance “on a plate”, only for the latter to blaze high and wide from close range.

Sunderland Nissan 1 Durham City 3 by Ken Milgate
August 2007
Solid at the back, industrious in midfield and inventive up front, City thoroughly deserved victory courtesy of their never-flinching application. Despite many compelling candidates for the ultimate accolade of man-of-the-match, Jonathan Butler gave a classic display of doing the simple thing with the utmost efficiency to prove that even unsung heroes catch the eye.

Morpeth Town 1 Durham City 2 by Ken Milgate
August 2007
It took a wonder goal from Keith Graydon deep into added-on time for City to record their second successive win at Craik Park, for so long a veritable graveyard for League points.
Despite an increasingly greasy surface and stotting rain, both sides played a neat passing game and showed commendable ball control.

Durham City 2 Bishop Auckland 1 by Ken Milgate
August 2007
City bagged maximum return in their opening match of the new campaign in a dull encounter which was nevertheless enlivened by an eye-catching performance by Craig Price who featured in all of City’s promising moves: his crosses and corners alone deserved more clinical finishing.
Stephen Harrison’s floated free-kick on 5minutes was cleared for a corner under pressure by James Crossman and Jamie Clarke at the back post headed wide from Stephen Capper’s left-wing cross six minutes later.
